breaking walls

I cannot say enough good things about Breaking Walls.  Our sixth graders have worked with Fran and her team for the past two years, making collaborative dramatic machines.   It’s great fun that is structured around a science learning standard.  For many students this is a first introduction to improv.  When you smile work with others in a whole body activity (and support classmates doing the same) terrific things happen-personal growth and fraternity included.
Breaking walls is an organization approved by the New York City Department of Education.  Being able to schedule and contract with them makes it very easy for my Principal to approve.  In addition to providing great instruction, BW has figured out the administrative logistics.  For a busy teacher, this a also a plus.
It is my pleasure to highly recommend Fran and Breaking Walls to other educators.  I hope they can expand their mission, too.
Also:
Our school serves a diverse population in terms of academics, socio-economics and heritage.   During the Breaking Walls workshops it is a delight to see students being brave as actors in their small groups.   This is due to the quality of instruction given-not merely with directions, but more importantly with generating a supportive, caring community.
