breaking walls

In the beginning, we didn’t know much about Breaking Walls. We both felt insecure about talking English with native speakers.

On the first day of the project, we started to collect things that are precious to us and the reasons why. We never really thought of that and that made us think about ourselves and what really is important to us.

On the next day, we played games to memorize names using a word that began with the same first letter as our own name. Next, Nuria asked us to complement each other – that was fun because it was interesting to know what other people think about you.

That afternoon we met at the Jewish Museum and our tour guide taught us a lot about Jewish people and prejudices.  On that day we got to know Fran and Egypt better and started to feel comfortable around them. Now they felt like friends and not teachers.

Our teamwork didn’t just improve with Fran and Egypt but our whole English class changed. We are all different but we realize that we accept each other as who we are.

We created a poem about acceptance based on a quote from the German author Herman Hesse. That morning we chose two of our texts for the script and, on Friday we practiced acting, voice projection and how to perform on stage.

In the next days, we are going to practice our script on stage and take a cooking class. We are looking forward to this! We are excited to perform in front of an audience and share our thoughts and opinions with them.

So far we can say thank you to Breaking Walls for teaching us how to use our voice and approach everyone with an open heart and mind.
