Our director/founder, Fran Tarr, is eager to share with you our “how-to-get-involved” information. Breaking Walls offers three levels of programming:
+ Our signature 16-day, holistic, value-based creative writing, performance, and peacebuilding Summit. Each Summit takes place in an international city. 2020 was to see 31 artists, five ambassadors, and one associate in Bucharest, Romania from June 28 through July 14. NOTE: Due to the international struggle with COVID-19, Breaking Walls will postpone our ninth annual Summit in Bucharest until the summer of 2021. Maintaining Breaking Walls’ safe zone, emotionally and physically, happily leads us to initiate our very first virtual International Artist Cooperative — utilizing Zoom for ensemble-building, peacemaking, and creative writing, and then offer break-out sessions where the artists’ writings are mentored by an expert artist or performer into a vocal, dance, visual art, spoken word or monologue piece; and, culminating into a performance and talk-back streamed live across the globe. The dates for Breaking Walls virtual International Artist Cooperative are August 5 through 12, 2020.
+ Our five-day Community-based Initiative consists of the same focus and process of our signature initiative with an emphasis on bringing together divergent groups of young men and women within their community setting. Our international ambassadors join the leadership team to expand the richness of the experience.
+ Our In-School Arts Education Workshop serves as a platform for self-expression, community-building, and enhancement of literacy skills within the classroom setting.
