As we all emerge from quarantine, Breaking Walls and our entire global family hopes you and your loved ones are staying safe and happy.
Maintaining Breaking Walls’ safe zone, emotionally and physically, happily leads us to initiate our very first virtual International Artist Cooperative — utilizing Zoom for ensemble-building, peacemaking, and creative writing, and then offer break-out sessions where the artists’ writings are mentored by an expert artist or performer into a vocal, dance, visual art, spoken word or monologue piece; and, culminating into a performance and talk-back streamed live across the globe.
Our artists, ambassadors, Director Team are brainstorming around all our ideas and concerns so our International Artist Cooperative illustrates a much-needed model of international cooperation and creative activism!
+ As a creative cross-cultural, cross-border Community, we agree that the future holds so many unknown factors for everyone, everywhere. Their honest concerns reflect what social scientists already call “Gen C”. A generation of young people in high school and college who are experiencing a short tern catastrophe that is interrupting their natural human journey forward in building independence and healthy adult relationships.
+ Our intrepid, resilient young people will lead the way in challenging another prevalent COVID-19 stress marker of isolation. Studies show team-work builds a sense of belonging while competition for your place in the world builds isolation. Creative team-work, the foundation of Breaking Walls, will act as the springboard for our artists sharing of their important stories through song, movement, visual/video art, storytelling, Spoken Word, and monologue performances inspiring the world with their powerful resilience and hope for our future.
+ We agree that 2020 needs its own theme to connect each unique 2020 Breaking Walls experience our young people crafted this statement: Breaking Walls 2020 artists – the seeds of transition to equity, trust, and justice for all our new tomorrows.
